2010-11 membership renewals due 1 July 2010

Membership fees are due and payable on 1 July each year. Existing members who have not renewed their subscriptions by 1 October are deemed to have resigned. New membership fees after 1 January are half the annual fee.

Fee structure changes

Membership fees and the IPEd levy

Members will undoubtedly notice that, for the first time since 2005, the membership fee across all categories of members has increased.

Members might also recall that the society joined the Institute of Professional Editors in 2008 but had in fact been required to pay a levy on all its members of $20 a year before that time. This substantial sum has been paid so far from the society's reserves but that situation is not sustainable in the long term, particularly as IPEd is proposing to increase the levy to $25 in 2010-11. Accordingly, at its meeting in May 2010, the society's committee decided to pass on half of the IPEd levy to members from the 2010-11 financial year; and to continue to meet half of the levy from reserves and from membership fees to the society. The committee's objectives in doing so were twofold:

• to minimise erosion to the society's reserves to enable us to continue expanding our services to members
• to increase awareness among members of the direct contribution they make to IPEd as a way of increasing commitment to, and involvement in, the national organisation by our members.

We encourage you to take an interest in the uses to which your levy payment is being put. Further information about IPEd is on its website, at www.iped-editors.org.

Payment

You can pay your membership fee one of two ways.

1. By cheque, money order or online transfer to our bank account

If you choose this option, please:

• download a membership form
• follow the instructions on the form to make the payment
• complete the form
• post the form to our post box. Please remember to do this or else we will not know if you have paid.

2. By Paymate

If you choose this option, please:

• log on to the Paymate website, at https://www.paymate.com.au
• click on > buyers Make an express payment > PAY NOW
• in the 'E-mail address' box, type payments@socedvic.org
• in the 'Order or Item No.' box, type your email address (so we can keep track of who has made the payment)
• follow all the other instructions to make the payment.
